Family photographs donated by Sri Sumaryani @nonickyani from his grandfathers’ photo archive. Interesting information that she revealed to me is that this collection of photographs are not all her grandfathers’ belongings. Her grandfather loves to collect photographs of and from his working partners.

This is the unique pattern of family photographs. There is no exact photographer; the husband, the wife, other family members, non-family member such as working partner and colleagues, or even hired professional photographers might be the author of the images. Together, they form a collaborative visual narrative. This is to say that the family is not always the creator of the images, but they perform a basic editing and subjective archiving of the family narrative. Also, it extends the concern of family (photographs) into something more inclusive. It might be more than just about the family, but also friends, colleagues, working partners, and any other (im)possible relations
